Indian Girl Gang-Raped
The father of an
Indian girl who was gang-raped in Delhi and later died says her name should be known
to everyone so that his daughter can be as an idol to other victims of sexual
crimes.
The father said "We
want the world to know my daughters name."Indian law covers sex
crime victims by restricting identity. One minister, Shashi
Tharoor, has commanded the system to reveal the name so it can be used for a
new opposing-rape act.
The woman, 23, died
last weekend in a hospital in Singapore from injury suffered throughout last
month's assault.
The father told the
Sunday People: "My daughter didn't do anything erroneous, she died while shielding
herself.
"I am swollen
with pride of her. Enlightening her name will give bravery to other women who
have survived these harassments. They will find strength from my
daughter."
The edicts
on recognition were introduced to shelter victims from the public disgrace related
with rape, and pertain even after the death of the victim.
Although the method
has not always been firm, the high-profile case has brought a sturdy standpoint
from the authorities.
Police filed a case
against newscaster Zee News after it accepted an interview with the friend who
was with the victim throughout the hassle.
The victim's friend
was not named but his face was exposed and police are examining whether Zee
News broke news casting laws relating to leak of the victim's personality.
However, it remnant uncertain
what could be done if the father chose to openly name his daughter.
Last week, Mr Tharoor,
the junior teaching minister, called on the the system to make known the name
of the gang-rape victim so that the new anti-rape regulations could be named
after her.
He wrote: "if not
her parent’s object, she should be privileged and the revised anti-rape edict
named after her. She was a human being with a name, not just a representation."
The Sunday People said
the father had given it authorization to name him and his daughter.
It carried a picture
of the father but said the family had requested no photo of the victim be used.
In the discussion, the
father also rehabilitated his calls for the men who conceded the assault to be
hanged.
"Death for all
six of them. These men are animal. They should be made an illustration of and
that people will not permit such things to occur," he said.
Five men have been
charged with seizure, rape and assassinate. A sixth suspect is likely to be
tried as a juvenile.
A pre-court inquiry
for the five was held in the Saket area of the Indian capital on Saturday and the
men have been edorder to appear in court on Monday.
